What is it that makes this line so fantastic? Designer Susie Crippen says it best: “As I started the process of building this company in my head, I went through old photographs of myself and saw that year after year, I wear the same simple pieces over and over again. I yearned for those clothes in a modern version. I wanted to make beautiful clothing that is easy to wear and stunning at the same time. I wanted clothing that defied trends and I would wear for twenty years and never want to give away. I wanted to put eight pieces of clothing and three pairs of shoes in my suitcase and be ready for any destination and situation I would be put in. And so CRIPPEN began…”
I have been a Susie Crippen fan since her J Brand days—she is one of the founding partners of the denim brand. I’m so excited to finally get something about her namesake label on the site. Would love to get some in my closet as well! My wardrobe is a strict palette of black, grey and other neutrals (occasional blues too), so this line is right up my alley. The Spring 2014 collection is filled with those timeless beauties that Susie describes above. I have my eyes on the Audrey shirt, Ingrid tee and especially the Brenner jacket. The Hazel tank and sweatshirt are also great basics that would no doubt remain in heavy rotation in my wardrobe.
Without further ado, here’s what Susie had to say about her latest collection for Spring ’14:
Dena ~ How has the line evolved since the launch?
Susie ~ “We have stepped outside the trousers world adding dresses and skirts. Spring is a more complete story of our salt-of-the-earth chic philosophy.”
Dena ~ What inspired the SP14 collection?
Susie ~ “For me everything is about making chic silhouettes the are grounded in ease… always.”
Dena ~ Which pieces are your personal faves?
Susie ~ “The Maya dress, the Indigo t-shirts, and the Finn shirt.”
Dena ~ What other brands/designers do you like to wear with Crippen?
Susie ~ “I buy the same designers all the time: Martin Margiela, Celine, Chloe, and Imogene + Willie. I mix all of those with CRIPPEN and as much vintage YSL as I can.”
