I definitely have some minimalist tendencies when it comes to dressing (and decor). Give me a high quality piece that is simple and versatile and I’ll wear it all the time. Campos Bags are my latest discovery. Hayden-Harnett designer Toni Hacker teamed up with legendary NYC sample maker Roy Campos, to create American-made bags with locally sourced leather and hardware. I’m smitten with the Anthracite Basic Tote and the Stripe Tote in Nutmeg/True Blue. Honestly, I can’t choose between the two because they are equally enticing and both fit right into to my wardrobe. Plus, the prices are pretty amazing. Each Campos bag is made to order in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. With prices hovering between $200-$300, it’s totally acceptable to have more than one. Custom Campos is a fantastic option too. This premium service (with a modest price bump) allows you to customize any of the styles, from the leather color to the zipper tape, interior pocket and handles. Here’s what Campos co-founder Toni has to say about these cool new bags:
Dena ~ What inspired you to create this line?
Toni ~ “Roy (Campos) and I had been talking about doing a design collaboration together for the past two years. I’d been dreaming of creating a line of ultra-basic, minimalistic bags that used 100% American materials and were sustainably made-to-order. I also wanted to shine the spotlight on the great leatherwork that Roy does in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. He’s been there for 25 years making bags for some of the best designers in fashion, but didn’t have anything with his name on it. Roy and I met for brunch, I told him my idea for Campos, and we just moved ahead from there.”
Dena ~ How long have you been working with Roy?
Toni ~ “Around 4 years, but it feels like we’ve known each other forever. Instant friendship.”
Dena ~ Which Campos style do you carry?
Dena ~ What’s in your bag?
Toni ~ “A LOT! Ha ha ha. MacBook Air,
Campos card case, Small Clutch, notebook, pens, business cards, umbrella for the newly unpredictable NYC weather, an assortment of lip stuffs,
Le Labo Santal 33 perfume, iPhone 5, new pants from recent retail therapy that I need to bring home, and a portable hard drive filled with images from recent photo shoots.
Dena ~ What other brands/designers do you like to wear with your Campos bags?
